I read Asher “Hop on Pop” the other night. One of the characters “Pat” sat on things, (bat, hat, cat) and also is about to sit on a cactus and we read “No Pat No, Don’t sit on that”
I told Asher that that was a cactus and it has sharp spikes that hurt you.
Today after we watched Jamie in the Sound of Music we were running to the car (three hours in a theatre make jack a restless boy) and I saw a cactus just off the walkway (yes we have cacti here in AZ). It was about 15 feet high and a foot in diameter. I pointed it out to Asher and he instantly wanted to touch it.
Carefully he reached out his hand and touched the spikes a few times. I nervously let him hoping that if he hurt himself he would at least learn a valuable lesson. He gained confidence and almost seemed to pet it before he looked at me with a sparkle in his eye, turned around and put his bum on it.
I started cracking up and said “No Pat No, Don’t sit on that!”. Sheesh, I love that boy!
